During the year, Northampton Chess Club organises a variety of internal competitions, as listed below.
| Club Championship | This takes place during the course of the season. The Club Champion keeps the Championship Trophy for a year. The Club Champion in 2009 is Alan Brown. |
| Under-100 Championship | This is a similar competition to the Club Championship, but is open only to players who have an ECF grade under 100 or who are ungraded. The winner keeps the Under-100 Championship Shield for a year. |
| Church Trophy | A tournament completed in one evening, in which each player has 10 minutes to complete each game. The winner keeps the Church Trophy for a year. |
| 5 Minute Tournament | A tournament completed in one evening, in which each player has 5 minutes to complete each game. The winner keeps the 5-minute Championship Shield for a year. |
| 20 Minute Tournament | A tournament completed over two evenings, in which each player has 20 minutes to complete each game. The winner keeps the 20-minute Championship Shield for a year. |
| Jack Cochran Memorial Tournament | A tournament completed in one evening with time handicaps to assist weaker players. The Jack Cochran Memorial Tournament Trophy is presented by Mrs. Cochran and the winner keeps it for a year. |
With the exception of the Jack Cochran Memorial Tournament, these competitions are open only to members of Northampton Chess Club. The Jack Cochran Memorial Tournament is open to members of Northampton Chess Club and members of Chess Mates, Northampton.
There are no entry fees associated with these competitions, except for the Jack Cochran Memorial Tournament, where a small charge of £1 per player is levied to meet expenses.
